The Ebony Straw Marquetry Lamp is a stunning example of ancient handmade craftsmanship. Each lamp is lovingly made by hand and is made to order. Designed with a beautiful straw marquetry radial effect in the center of the rectangular base. A juxtaposition of simplicity with incredible detail. 

The individual nature of the straw marquetry technique allows the customer to choose their own colour scheme from a whole range of coloured straw.

This lamp does not include the shade.

Straw marquetry is the art of forming a decorative panel using flattened slithers of natural cured straw. The stem is split, flattened, softened and scraped or ironed into a flat ribbon. It is then inlaid edge to edge on the wood until the entire surface is covered. The process is entirely hand made from the preparation of the straw into ribbons, to the dyeing process, to the choosing and inlaying of each single piece of straw onto the surface of the lamp.

Each of our beautiful lamps is handmade by artisans that specialise in historic techniques and a variety of materials. Straw marquetry is available in a whole range of stunning shades. 

 

Materials

Hand detailed with individual pieces of straw to create the marquetry effect. Lamps come fitted with matching silk flex chord and a 5 amp plug. Shade sold separately.
